Just the 2 of us – week two
The Princess and I
Just before 8am the princess and I rocked up to a retail carpark near to home. The aim was to go and sit together whilst she enjoyed a McDonald’s breakfast. As we arrived and I caught a glimpse of ‘Frankie & Benny’s’ I remembered they do breakfasts and how much nicer it would be for us to take up a booth and have a good old girlie time. We trekked across the car park to discover they open at 9. Oh well, ‘another week’ I said, ‘back to Mcdonald’s.’
I’m trying to eat better at the moment so having this one on one time in exciting places for the children is a challenge. It would be very easy to use it as an excuse to join them in the treat, but I desperately need to shift the ever climbing weight since I had Eden, so I have a bagel with Philadelphia, and Shayla chooses pancakes.
As we sit I realise, it has been a long time since Shayla and I had this time just to chat together on our own. We used to have it often before I was pregnant with Eden, when Isis was at school on a Friday, but not for the last year.
I asked her if she’s excited to start school, she tells me she’s excited to spend her days colouring and playing with dolls. She’s had a couple of trial days, so I guess that’s about right, but I had forgotten how much more chilled reception class is. I ask her if she thinks she’ll enjoy learning to read better, ‘yes’ came the response followed by a tale of how if Isis reads a page to her she can repeat it back, I guess to her, at the moment, that’s reading. I ask if she thinks she’ll be good at Maths, the response is, ‘I think that I’ll be very, very good at maths.’ This is a very enthusiastic response considering Isis hates Maths, it’s her worst subject, even though she’s above where she should be for her age, she lets us know how much she hates it often. I inquired ‘wow really? why do you think you’ll be good at Maths Shayla?’, ‘because I’m good at colouring,’ she replied. I cannot argue with that logic. ‘You’re probably right,’ I tell her.
We then got onto the subject of her birthday that is coming up the week after she starts school. She has always had small parties at home, this year, with it being her first birthday at school, I have told her we can do it elsewhere so that she can invite all her class.
Shayla has not wavered all year since her last party, she wants a pirates and princesses party again, this year though she wants the theme to be Disney princesses, she has told me she will be Cinderella, Isis will be Aurora and I will be Ariel because I have red hair. She has permitted me to wear whatever I want though because I will look like a princess anyway (definitely her Father’s daughter, with those cringeworthy remarks) – bless.
It was nice just being together, we had some shopping to do once we finished our breakfast so off to Waitrose (just across the carpark) we went.
We had some bits to get, and spent quite a bit of time admiring the pretty cupcakes at the bakery and in the party cake aisle. This sparked further discussion about plans for her party. She is really excited to be a part of the decision making processes now she’s older and we will be trawling through pinterest together at some point soon to start deciding on decorations, and food ideas etc.
I’m looking forward to planning Shayla’s 5th birthday, we have provisionally saved the date by sending out facebook invites after our conversation today. We will probably be posting our ideas, and creations as we go along.
As always feel free to link up anytime you may have spent with one of your littlies this week, and feel free to pop our badge on too.
